Constance Is Promtacular!

Photo (left) is not of Constance, but was featured here.

Promtacular! is in no way a political website, unless you consider “Does Mike have a mullet or not” political discourse.

But we are heavily pro-sequins-and-hairspray, regardless of decade, dress, tux, or gender.

Perhaps you’ve heard the bruhaha surrounding Constance, a teenager from Mississippi who wanted to wear a tux and take her girlfriend to the prom. Rather than allowing either of these things to happen, her school cancelled the prom altogether.

And Promtacular! died a little inside.

But all is not lost.

For one thing, there’s a Let Constance Take Her Girlfriend To Prom fanpage on Facebook with nearly half a million fans from all around the country.

For another, you could check out this awesome Gay Teen pop-culture site by Lee Wind, which is thoughtful, fun, smart and inclusive. He provides a bunch of useful links, clips and summary of the Constance affair.

MOST Promtacularly, you could check out all the amazing photos Lee linked to from Autostraddle of lesbians who were allowed to take their girlfriends to prom, and who have the pictures to prove it. That’s where the AMAZING photo (above) came from, and where many more reside.

Talk about celebrating the awesome.

If you have a same-sex photo from a teen formal that you’d like to contribute to Promtacular!, we hope you’ll do so. Like love, tacky backdrops know no bounds.
