If You Can’t Say Something Nice…

…don’t wear this to Prom.

Year: Far Too Recent

Promtacular! is not about being snarky. It is about celebrating our prom fashions as they deserve to be celebrated: in all their sequined, pouffy splendor. And I am certain, absolutely certain, that in another 10, maybe 15 years this will be more laughable than it is now.

Right?

This photo was originally featured on Dlisted. Because, if you couldn’t tell (perhaps because you hadn’t even noticed this lovely young lady has a head), this is American Idol’s favorite “minks,” Kellie Pickler.

And if her dress doesn’t say destined for stardom, well. It says something.

It was awfully kind of the dressmaker to build the thong straps right in, so Kellie didn’t have to bother with underwear at all. Plus the dress is sparkly! And comes with a wrap, which practically makes the whole ensemble elegant.

Especially as her jewelry is so understated. Think how gaudy this would have been if her dangling belly button ring had been longer.

She really dodged a bullet there.

*Ed note: Just because WE try not to be too snarky doesn’t mean YOU can’t be.

    I don't think that's a shadow.

  2. Kellie Pickler was abandoned by her mom and her dad spent her childhood in prison so, technically, her grandparents let her out of the house in this getup.

Still, it's better suited to someone who wraps herself around a pole and wears lucite heels.

that's not a wheat field in the background. that's the area behind the trailer where they keep the yard decoractions, aka broke-down cars. luckily it was a special occasion so at least part of the yard got mowed…

wrong on so many levels. but, the people who bear the biggest burden here are the parents. that absolutely should NOT have been allowed to walk out the front door. A bare abdomen is bad enough, but the little peek-a-boo shots of her thighs are unforgiveable.

how parents can clad their own daughters like harlots, and then wonder why there is such a thing as date-rape, promiscuity, and unplanned pregnancy are morons.

a young lady who does not know how to comport herself in public, and at a formal event no less, obviously does not have the emotional maturity to be in public. she should stay home and play with her dolls and dream of the day when she will be a big girl and can do adult things.

Its prom not porn right? Then its acceptable

  6. Sara says:

If I had tried to select a dress like this my mom probably would have kicked my ass. I mean, this is just tacky, and downright slutty.

But, I want to point out to thad that dressing provocatively has absolutely NOTHING to do with date-rape. Date rape is never a woman’s fault even when she dressed like this. Who’s fault is it? The rapist’s.

I love this dress. I would wear this dress and my husband and I would allow our daughter out in this dress, she wore something similar to her prom.
