It Was So Nice Of The Cullens To Let You Use Their Home For Photos: Part I

Year: 1986

Megan writes: From the dress to the date, it is 80s all the way.

I…I mean…words…80s…defy…

The color is fantastic. And I think Megan actually showed restraint by pairing her teal? aqua? frilly pinwheel top with a black skirt as opposed to, say, a hot pink one. Which would have been completely acceptable.

And while I love her haircut (sort of a take on the wedge cut, which the hottest girls in ’86 dared to get), I must note her date’s hair.

I don’t know what we called it then, or if it even had a name. But it’s basically a reverse mullet. For the young’uns out there who might not understand — that boy? His hair is short all around his head except for where his pseudo-bangs hang down over his face.

And yes, that was was also hot.

Overall, I’d have to say that Megan and her date basically grabbed 1986 by the balls and said, “YES. WE ARE WITH YOU.”

The guy's hair? Isn't it an intense, ambitious sort of good ole under-cut?

  2. promtacular! says:

Is that what it's called? I really didn't know. My cousin had one, but I was always just jealous that his “bangs” were longer than mine.

  3. Swistle says:

His hair—you know, it almost looks like it's NOT short all over, but COMBED BACK. It is hard to tell, though, because I can't focus on it for long without losing my sight.

  4. othurme says:

“Party in the front, business in the back,” are the only words you need to utter in Supercuts for a variety of services including that hair cut.

  5. Pete says:

I don't know if that haircut had a name. When I tried that look in high school, I modeled it after Alex Lifeson from Rush and Martin Fry from ABC.

I also like how he's touching Megan's shoulders so gingerly. Like he's thinking, “I guess I should be touching my date…but her parents are RIGHT THERE!”

  6. dinesrix says:

In my town the guys used to wear the long hair in a pony tail. So we could see the almost shaved scalp. Most of them turned out pretty normal though. Who would have known.

  7. Megan says:

Megan here. As a viewer of the actual real life hair cut on my date, it was a skate rat look. It was actually buzzed short all the way around except for the bangs in front. I loved it. My parent's made relentless fun of it.

  8. othurme says:

    Parents can be so cruel.

At my high school, we called boys with that haircut “slingheads.” The coolest ones would sling their hair ever-so-impatiently out of their eyes and follow with a rake of the fingers before pushing off on their skateboards into the sunset. Not to be daunted by all that '80's coolness, those bangs would immediately fall right back into the eyes where they were so carefully styled to be. Artistic moodiness a must. Oh, how I worshipped the slingheads. Funny, now I'm with a bald guy. ;)

Isn't the date wearing the Kate Gosselin hairstyle? Or is Kate Gosselin wearing the skate rat style?

I keep coming back and clicking on the random photos. Half of your stats are probably from Aurora. Hi, that's me. I'm practically pissing myself laughing at these.

All the while the lyrics, “Don't you…forget about me…” dance through my head.

Thank the good lord for Promtacular.
