Got(ti) Awkward Prom Pic?

So. This is a photo of John Gotti and his daughter, Victoria, before her prom. Awesome Promtacular! reader Tonia sent it in saying she found it from a CBS slideshow. (I would totally give photo credit if I could find the site it came from.)

THANK YOU, TONIA. Because this photo really says “prom magic,” doesn’t it? I love that you can tell it’s from the 70s because everything – including the photo itself – is washed in a yellow hue. Yellow walls, yellow light fixtures, yellow curtains, yellow planters. You can’t tell me there’s not macramé somewhere.

I’m sure growing up in the Gotti household wasn’t entirely “normal,” but this photo sure makes it look like it was. Just a proud father, sitting beside his prom-going daughter who looks like she might be going to her own wedding and also looks (for better and worse) EXACTLY like him, right down to the black mushroom hair and eyes that say friendly but also do not mess with me.

So here is my question: Who on EARTH takes John Gotti’s daughter to prom? Oh, to have seen THAT picture!
